Part Six: The Wide World of Panties

Though we sometimes lump them into one or two broad categories, underwear actually deserves a more detailed classification than bikini or brief. The panty has evolved tremendously over the past 100 years, covering a wide range of skin in the process. So here’s a breakdown of the most common styles, from victorian bloomers all the way to the brazilian g-string.

Bloomers: A loose-fitting garment, gathered above the knee; used to provide warmth and comfort under the crinoline in the late 1800s.

Tap Pants: Named after dancer’s shorts, these cute panties can be worn over another pair of underwear or on their own; a great option for hot Summer days.

Boyshorts: Increasingly popular style of low-cut underwear fashioned after men’s briefs that starts just below the hipbone and fully covers the derriere - our favorite here at Lille!

Brief : Commonly referred to as the Granny Panty, the high waisted, full bottom brief is a comfortable everyday option that can actually be quite sexy - see Sara’s Great Moments in Panty History post if you don’t believe me.

Bikini: Possibly the most popular style of panty due to its flattering high-cut leg, total comfort and extreme versatility.
