Lingerie on Film: Halloween edition!

Posted on October 31, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

Happy Halloween! In honor of this, my favorite holiday of the year, I thought I’d post a few photos of lingerie in horror films through the ages. From scantily-clad coeds in slasher flix to silver screen damsels in distress, there is certainly plenty of material to choose from. It’s interesting to chart the evolution of lingerie style and the inherent implication about society’s attitude towards sex in different eras through a cinematic lens. I’ll leave it up to you to pick your favorite…mine is above (Tim Curry in Jim Sharman’s Rocky Horror Picture Show, 1975.)

Incoming: Wundervoll Lingerie

Posted on October 30, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

I’m so excited to finally be able to post this!  In just a few weeks, we will be receiving our first shipment from the amazing new German lingerie line, Wundervoll.  Comprised entirely of the finest jersey knit from 100% silk, the line is not only luxurious but also reasonably priced, ranging from $70 to $180.  My absolute favorite set is the Boogie Bra and Boogie Briefs, pictured above.  I’ve posted a few more shots below, but there will be even more great bras, undies, camisoles and lounge shirts coming than you see in the (enviably hot) images.  The soft, stretchy, lightweight garments are sure to become a staple in your lingerie wardrobe!

Real Life in Lingerie: Peek-a-bra

Posted on October 29, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

At the risk of resembling Susie Bubble, I decided to post a few photos of my favorite new blouse, which I blogged about just the other day. This time I’ve paired it with the fantastic VPL B-Fractional Bra, Cheap Monday jeans, feather earrings and a vintage blazer, for a more casual, everyday look. A construction-cone orange bra just begs to be put on display, and I think it’s the perfect way to show your lingerie without showing too much skin - this one comes down lower on the ribcage than most bras, so you’re not exposing your entire torso. More photos after the jump…

Christine Babydoll and Rebecca Brief

Posted on October 28, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

I mentioned the cute new Dessous sets briefly last week, but I wanted to tell you a little bit more about this adorable babydoll and brief. The Christine clings to your body in all the right places, hiding just enough flesh and flattering most any figure. The contrasting ivory trim and flower embroidery really stands out on the Cerise shade, which is a soft berry color. The matching Rebecca undie is one of my favorites - I even wore it on my wedding day! It has the same ivory trim around the waist and legs, giving it a bit of an athletic-inspired feel, but the matching rosettes on each hip ensure that it is still very feminine. Both are made from the same soft, stretchy viscose fiber that we have all come to know and love in Dessous garments.  Only one of each size available, sure to sell out fast!

Nina Ricci Glycine

Posted on October 25, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

The first shipment of Nina Ricci lingerie has arrived! Any lingerie fanatic will swoon over the quality of these beautiful designer sets. The Glycine Camisole and Shorty is a saucy little black number made from the finest silk and intricate Calais lace. The top would be an ideal day-wear option under a gorgeous blouse and would translate well into the evening as a sexy sleep set with the loose boyshort. High-cut slits on the side of the shorty ensure unfettered movement, so you won’t experience any thigh strangulation in the middle of the night. For those gentlemen out there who are planning ahead, I can’t think of a more perfect Christmas gift than this unique and beautiful set!

Let it Rain!

Posted on October 23, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

The amazing Japanese Umbrellas are here! They come in a vast array of colors and patterns like teal with polka dot trim and stripes (pictured above!) In addition to being incredibly sturdy, they have beautiful details like leather handles and long metal tips. American or European-made umbrellas with similar features (if you can even find them) can cost upwards of $200, so you can imagine my delight at the reasonable price tag on these beauties. At just $48 a piece, there is no excuse for sporting one of those boring old disposable black umbrellas that is sure to flip up at the slightest gust of wind. Let the rain begin!

Yes, I know my bra is showing

Posted on October 22, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

As any of my friends can tell you, I am a sucker for silk blouses. They dominate my wardrobe, often to the detriment of other apparel categories - I have far more tops than corresponding bottoms. It’s almost a compulsion at this point, since I will never be able to wear them all, but when I see one that is well made, particularly if it has some handworked detail like cutwork, pintucks, pleats or embroidery, I just have to buy it. My most recent indulgence was a beautiful beige silk chiffon number by Allison Covington, who just opened Amai Unmei on NW Johnson and 23rd street. (For those of you who aren’t familiar with the city, that is in the sleek Nob Hill neighborhood just over the river.) Fortunately, it serves a vital purpose in my wardrobe - showcasing my lingerie collection - so I’ve already managed to wear it out! It’s a simple design with cap sleeves, a jewel neck and a pretty sash that ties at the side. I wore it over my La Perla black silk merrywidow with ecru lace, paired with a calf-length vintage pleated skirt and black silk knit thigh highs. I love the subtlety of wearing a modest, long-ish skirt with an elegant, sheer top so the whole effect isn’t too over-the-top sexy. I highly recommend this blouse if you have a special undergarment you want to show off like the Araks Petra Cami or the VPL B-Fractional Bra.

Shades of Grey

Posted on October 21, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

I’ve brought in a new batch of hand-dyed vintage silk knit stockings in several shades of grey ranging from pearl to charcoal.  I’m also extremely pleased to announce my first success at obtaining a true black by tripling the amount of dye.  There are also a few pairs of Navy, which I’m sure will go fast.  Espresso, Wine, Fuchsia and more coming soon!

Arak Obama

Posted on October 16, 2008 by Sarah Wizemann

Ok, so this post has nothing to do with the dreamy candidate of choice with the knowing Clooney-esque half-smile who killed it in the debate last night (did you see the part where he said no one cared about McCain’s hurt feelings?  So awesome!)  Rather, it’s about the shipment of Araks replenishment that arrived this week.  The popular black rib knit series sold out so fast that some of you missed out on your size the first time around, but don’t fret  - they’re back in stock!  My favorite combo is the super sexy, wide-cut, triangle Gwyneth Bralette paired with the skimpier Ariel Panty but some people prefer the more conservative Lida Bralette and high-waisted Regina Brief, pictured above.  Vote amongst yourselves (and don’t forget to register to vote by tomorrow if you haven’t already!)
